1/2 to 1 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen

2 cups seedless watermelon

Directions for making blueberry watermelon dog treats

Start by cutting the watermelon into small pieces making sure to remove any seeds you find. You need to end up with 2 cups of chopped watermelon.

Then place the watermelon into a blender or food processor and add the 1 cup of water.

Puree until mostly smooth.

Next, take the blueberries and place a few into each spot in an ice cube tray. You can use a regular ice cube tray or these paw and bone shape silicone molds that I used, and cover the bottom of each spot with blueberries. The blueberries I used were very small, larger blueberries will need to be cut in half or quarters to fit properly.

Finally, pour the watermelon mixture over the blueberries filling each ice cube spot to the top.

Freeze for at least 3 to 4 hours or longer if needed.

Once frozen, remove the treats from the ice cube trays and give one to your dog. The rest should be stored in an airtight container in the freezer.

Tips for making frozen watermelon blueberry dog treats

When using silicone molds, place the silicone mold on a cookie sheet prior to filling. This will make it easier to get it to the freezer.

You can adjust the size of these treats by using different-sized ice cube trays, or by not filling the tray as full. Make smaller treats for smaller dogs and larger treats for larger dogs.

If the blueberries you have are too large to place whole in the ice cube tray and you don’t want to cut them, they can be added to the blender and pureed with the watermelon.

I used frozen blueberries and they started to thaw in the process of making the treats. This caused the treats to have a layered pink and purple look to them. Treats made with fresh blueberries won’t have this look to them.

To make this look with fresh blueberries, puree them with a little water. Then pour into the ice cube tray filling 1/4 to 1/2 of the way. Freeze for a couple of hours, then add the watermelon puree.

Making homemade dog treats is a great way to ensure your furry friend gets healthy and delicious snacks. Frozen watermelon blueberry dog treats are a refreshing option on a hot summer day and are easy to make with just a few ingredients.

Using fresh fruits like watermelon and blueberries provide your dog with essential vitamins and nutrients that can improve their overall health.

Always consult with your veterinarian before introducing new foods into your dog’s diet. Also, be mindful of the portion sizes and frequency of treats given to your dog as too much can lead to weight gain and other health issues.
