Recipe for Watermelon Strawberry Banana Frozen Dog Treats

Making frozen treats with watermelon, strawberry, and banana is simple and fun. All you need is a blender or food processor, some fresh fruit, and a set of molds or an ice cube tray. Here’s an easy recipe to try this summer.

Ingredients

Banana, watermelon, and strawberries in individual white bowls on the counter.
  • 1 cup seedless watermelon, chopped
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and chopped
  • 1 large ripe banana, peeled

Directions

Prep the fruit by removing the seeds and rind from the watermelon and chopping it into small pieces. Chop the strawberries after removing the leaves and stems. Peel the banana and break it into a few pieces.

Add all the fruit to a food processor or blender.

Banana, watermelon, and strawberries pureed.

Process for 30 to 60 seconds or until you have a smooth, pourable mixture. Scrape down the sides as needed.

Pour or spoon into silicone molds. I like these cute paw and bone-shaped molds for smaller treats, or these larger paw shaped molds for bigger treats.

Place the molds flat in the freezer. Freeze for at least 3–4 hours, or until fully solid.

Once frozen, remove from the molds.

Tips

Place silicone molds on a baking sheet to make carrying them to the freezer easier.

If you don’t have silicone molds, use ice cube trays instead.

One of the best parts about homemade dog treats is that you can adjust the size of them based on your dog’s size. Make smaller treats for smaller dogs, and bigger treats for big dogs.

Always consult your vet before giving your dog any new foods, especially if they have known health issues or allergies.

Serving Size and Moderation

It’s tempting to spoil your dog with treats, but moderation is key for their health. Here’s how to keep it safe:

  • Stick to the 10% rule: Treats, including all fruit-based ones, should only make up 10% or less of your dog’s daily calories. The rest should come from balanced dog food.
  • Portion sizes depend on your dog’s size and the treat size.
  • Too much fruit can cause an upset stomach, diarrhea, or even spikes in blood sugar. Watch for these signs after new treats:
    • Loose stools or diarrhea
    • Gas or bloating
    • Vomiting
    • Restlessness or extra thirst

If you spot any of these, pause the treats and talk to your vet.

Final Thoughts

With just a few simple ingredients and a little freezer time, you can treat your dog to a refreshing snack that’s as nutritious as it is delicious.

Banana Melon Berry Pawsicles are a fun way to keep your dog cool while sneaking in some extra fruits and hydration, perfect for hot summer days or just because they deserve something special.

Give them a try, and don’t be surprised if your dog starts hovering near the freezer every time you open it!
