Pumpkin puree and Greek yogurt in individual white bowls.
  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • ½ cup of pumpkin puree (NOT pumpkin pie filling)

Instructions

Place silicone molds like these paw and bone shaped molds on a baking sheet.

Next, in a small bowl, combine the pumpkin puree and Greek yogurt.

Mix well, creating a smooth, creamy texture.

Carefully fill your silicone molds with the mixture. I find it easiest to spoon it into the mold versus trying to pour it into the mold. Don’t worry if it’s slightly messy; your dog doesn’t care how neat the treat looks.

Place the filled mold in the freezer, allowing the treats to freeze completely. This should take around 4 hours, but it can take longer, depending on how cold your freezer is. Leaving them overnight will ensure they are frozen solid.

Once the treats are frozen, pop them out of the mold and store them in an airtight container, like a plastic freezer bag, in the freezer.

Don’t forget to give one to your dog!

Notes About Making Frozen Homemade Pumpkin Dog Treats

Placing silicone molds on a cookie sheet makes it easier to move the molds from the counter to the freezer.

If you don’t have any cute silicone molds to use, you can use regular ice cube trays for these treats instead.

Pumpkin has many benefits for dogs, including aiding with both diarrhea and constipation. Because it can help with either of these issues, there is the possibility that your dog will develop either of these issues if given too much pumpkin. To limit this risk, it’s best to limit the amount of pumpkin ice cream you give your dog daily.

You can adjust the size of your pumpkin ice cream treats based on the size of your dog. Either get smaller silicone molds for small dogs, or just don’t fill the ice cube tray full. Large dogs can tolerate larger treats, but it’s still best to limit them to no more than 1 treat a day.

This recipe can be made with either canned pumpkin or your own pumpkin puree that you made prior to this recipe. If you use canned pumpkin, make sure you get the one that is 100% pureed pumpkin and NOT the pumpkin pie filling. This can be confusing, as some brands have a picture of pumpkin pie on both the pumpkin puree and the pumpkin pie filling labels.

Always consult your vet before giving your dog new foods, especially if your dog has known allergies or health conditions.

Remember that these treats should be given in moderation, as with any other food item.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it safe for dogs to consume pumpkin ice cream?
