Do you have a furry friend who needs help keeping their teeth clean? Do they fight you when you try to brush their teeth?

BarkBright may be the answer you are looking for. It’s an easy way to keep your dog’s teeth clean without brushing. It may not be quite as good as brushing (I wouldn’t know, my dogs refuse to have their teeth brushed), it’s definitely better than nothing at all.

Read on to learn about what comes in a BarkBright box and how it can help keep your pup’s pearly whites clean and healthy!

Options for Cleaning a Dog’s Teeth

Properly brushing your dog’s teeth will always provide the best at-home teeth cleaning for your dog, but not every dog is cooperative with getting their teeth brushed. If your dog is like both of mine, they refuse to have their teeth brushed but they still need something to help keep their teeth clean.

The next best thing to brushing a dog’s teeth is using a dental chew. Dental chews help keep your dog’s teeth clean by scraping off plaque and tartar as they chew. They also help to freshen breath and reduce bad odor.

While Greenies and Dentastix are two of the most well-known dental chews out there, there is another one, BarkBright, that has gone one step beyond being just a dental chew.

What is Bark Bright?

BarkBright is a subscription box for dog dental care. It is different from the other dental chews in that it is the first to offer a toothpaste to put on the scrubbing dental chew.

The dental chew and toothpaste work together to help reduce plaque on your dog’s teeth.

What’s Included with Bark Bright

Each box of Bark Bright comes with a 30 day supply of enzymatic toothpaste and dental chews.

The toothpaste comes in a single tube while the chews come in either one bag of 30 chews or two bags of 15 chews depending on the size of the chew.

What does Bark Bright Enzymatic Toothpaste Do?

Bark Bright’s enzymatic toothpaste has three active enzymes, amyloglucosidase (AMG), Glucose oxidase (GOX), and Lactoperoxidase, which work together to help clean your dog’s teeth and split up harmful microbes.

These enzymes aid in the maintenance of the normal anti-microbial processes that are already going on in your dog’s mouth.

Ease of Use

Bark Bright is very easy to use. The toothpaste is very much like human toothpaste in that you simply need to squeeze a small amount along the length of the dental chew.

You then just have to give it to your dog and let your dog chew it up.

Are There Dogs That Shouldn’t Use Bark Bright?

There are only two types of dogs that should not use Bark Bright. Those are puppies that don’t have their permanent teeth in yet and dogs that have an allergy to one of the ingredients.

The most common allergy that would pose a risk is those dogs that are allergic to chicken. At the time this was written, Bark Bright only offers one flavor and that flavor is chicken. If your dog is allergic to chicken you will need to try a different dental chew until Bark Bright adds a different flavor.

Otherwise, the toothpaste and chews are completely edible and safe for your dog to ingest, just limit it to one a day as these are for dental hygiene, not treats (though my dogs insist these are treats and would love it if I let them have more than their one a day).

Pros of Bark Bright

  • Since it is a monthly subscription, you never have to worry about running out.
  • Along with not running out, you no longer have to go to the store to buy dental sticks.
  • The chews and toothpaste work together to help reduce the plaque on your dog’s teeth.
  • Dogs love the taste (at least mine do).

Cons of Bark Bright

  • There is only one flavor (chicken) available currently.
  • It’s more expensive than other dental chews.
  • Depending on your dog, it can be a bit messy due to the toothpaste. I limited the worry over this by having my dogs eat them either in their kennels or in the kitchen until I knew they wouldn’t make a mess.

How My Dogs Did With Bark Bright

A German Shepherd with an open mouth ready to grab a dental chew stick.

Luna and Morgan are both afraid of having their teeth brushed and my vet has commented on their having plaque on their teeth. Morgan, being several years older than Luna, even got to the point of having to have a dental cleaning by the vet (not cheap!) but thankfully her teeth were not as bad as expected and she didn’t have to have any removed.

That experience made us realize that we needed to do something to help keep their teeth clean. While the vet would prefer us to brush their teeth they did suggest that a dental chew may aid in helping their teeth.

We started with Dentastix, and while my dogs really liked those, they absolutely love Bark Bright’s chew and toothpaste.

Morgan loves it so much she can’t wait for me to give her the chew and will start begging for it as soon as she knows it’s time for her dental chew. Luna, thankfully, is a bit more patient, though she takes it and eats it as soon as I let her.

Does Bark Bright Work?

Honestly, on this point, I can’t say for sure. Between the Dentastix we started with and Bark Bright, I haven’t been told my dog’s teeth need a cleaning, but they also haven’t gone to the vet recently.

Either way, I do strongly believe that some form of dental chew, whether it’s Bark Bright or another, is better than nothing at all.

So is Bark Bright worth it?

As with anything, it depends on your dog and what you can afford. If your dogs hate having their teeth brushed, and you don’t want to have to remember to buy more dental chews, then yes, I believe Bark Bright is worth it.

If, on the other hand, money is tight (or you have multiple dogs where the expense adds up fast) other dental chews will work, though none have the toothpaste which is what really makes Bark Bright different.

How Do I Sign Up for Bark Bright?

To sign up for Bark Bright you just have to go to the Bark Bright website and click on any of the Get Started buttons on their page. You will then be asked a few questions about your dog so they can get you the right size chew.

Related Products

If you decide you don’t want to try Bark Bright, but you do want to start giving your dog a dental chew to aid in their dental hygiene, the other options I recommend are Dentastix and Greenies. You can get Greenies at Chewy or Amazon, and Dentastix from Amazon or Chewy.

What Other Products Does Bark Offer?

Bark Bright is only one of the products that Bark offers. They also have their original Bark Box and the Super Chewer Box. I have tried both and my dogs enjoyed the toys and treats in both.
